Estate agents in Weybridge
In the 15th century, Weybridge became a favored location for royalty when Henry VIII built Oatlands Palace, attracting other nobles to settle nearby. Notable estates included William Wayneflete’s palace in Esher, Ashley Park and the Manor House in Walton-on-Thames, and Portmore Park in Weybridge. Elmbridge Borough was first mentioned in the historic Domesday Book of 1086, where it was referred to as “Amelebrige.” The name is derived from the original term for the River Mole, “Amele,” and the Old English word for bridge, “brige.”
The River Mole runs through the Borough from north to south, and while the exact location of the original bridge remains speculative, the Borough of Elmbridge was formally established in 1972 following the Local Government Act, which merged the Esher, Walton-on-Thames, and Weybridge Urban District Councils.
The town offers a wide variety of properties, from modest one-bedroom flats perfect for first-time buyers to grand mansions set on expansive plots within the exclusive St George’s Hill private estate. Popular with both families and commuters, the town benefits from excellent state and private schools such as Heathside, St George’s College, as well as a fast and frequent train service into London. With two vibrant shopping areas, the main High Street features an eclectic mix of shops, bars, cafes, and boutique clothing stores, while Queens Road offers a lively social scene with a diverse selection of shops, bars, restaurants, and pubs.
